AutoCopy Restart Service

August 24, 2008 Version 3.2.2 Update

AutoCopy Restart ServiceThe AutoCopy Restart Service is a Windows Service Application which uses a timer to check the status of the Recorded TV Manager AutoCopy Service every fifteen minutes.  If the AutoCopy Service has stopped, for whatever reason, the Restart Service will start it back up.

Rational: There are errors and other usage scenarios that can cause the Recorded TV AutoCopy Service to stop and not restart, regardless as to any recovery options which have been set.  See Setting AutoCopy Service Recovery Options.  Installing this service on the Windows Home Server will improve the stability of the Recorded TV Manager software.

Additionally, the Version 3.2.2 update includes these new features

Download:  RTVAutoCopyRestartServiceSetup3_2_2.msi

AutoCopy Off Time

The AutoCopy Off Time is a time interval that the AutoCopy Service will be turned off.  For example, if your Media Center computer sleeps over night and you don't want the AutoCopy service to wake it up, you can set the AutoCopy Off Time to be 11pm to 4am.  The AutoCopy Restart service will turn the AutoCopy service off between those hours.

To set an AutoCopy Off Time, please follow this procedure

  1. Right-click on this link AutoCopyOffTime.xml and choose Save target as... Save the file in the Shared folder on the WHS named \Software\Recorded TV Manager\Data.
  2. Log on directly to the WHS.
  3. Stop the AutoCopy Restart Service.
  4. Navigate to the Shared folder named \Software\Recorded TV Manager\Data.
  5. Right-click the file AutoCopyOffTime.xml and select Open With >> Notepad to open the file for editing.
  6. Edit the "Off" and "On" times using 24 hour clock format (i.e. 23:30 is 11:30pm).  Close the file and save the changes.
  7. Start the AutoCopy Restart Service.  Check the Recorded TV Manager event log to verify the new settings.
  8. Log off the WHS.
