The Recorded TV Manager WHS Client application is a Windows application which you install and run on any Home Server client computer.  The program utilizes the folder list from the Recorded TV Manager Add-in to provide access to your entire recorded TV collection.

Client ApplicationUse the Recorded TV Manager WHS Client application to move/copy/delete recorded TV episodes using drag-n-drop or context menus, print listings of series collections, play recordings directly off the server, and more.  This application also provides access to the Series Info database which keeps track of what episodes you've recorded and when you watched them.

More:  The Recorded TV Manager WHS Client application is basically the same user interface as Recorded TV Manager Version 2.  See Recorded TV Manager Version 2 Program Help for more information.  Note that certain subjects discussed in the Version 2 documentation do not apply to the WHS version, i.e. Running the program for the first time, AutoCopy, add/remove folders from the folder list and AutoDelete options which are handled by the Recorded TV Manager tab on the Home Server console.

Recorded TV Manager WHS Client Release Notes:

Version 3.4.12 Posted August 24, 2008

  1. Includes support for the Recorded TV Manager Vista Media Center Add-in Beta 2.
  2. Various bug fixes and efficiency improvements.

Version 3.4.5 Posted March 24, 2008

  1. Startup Requirements - Improved the startup code regarding problems running the program including extended error reporting in the local eventlog.
  2. PERFORM_STARTUP_CHECK - Each time the client application starts it performs a consistency check between the Series Info database and the current state of recordings on the network.  The reason for that is because outside agents such as Media Center, Windows Explorer and other programs are constantly changing things.  You can skip the consistency check to start the program faster:

    1. From the Start menu on the client machine select Run and type Regedit, then click OK.  (In Windows Vista select All Programs >> Accessories.)
    2. Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Drasch Computer Software\Recorded TV Manager WHS Client
    3. Add a new string variable named PERFORM_STARTUP_CHECK and set its value to "False"
    4. Close Regedit.
  3. The default value for PERFORM_STARTUP_CHECK is True.  If you skip the startup consistency checks, sometimes the program will get a little confused.  Click the Refresh button to refresh the display and run the consistency checks.  Use the Refresh button often, especially if the program is running for extended periods of time when there is AutoCopy activity.
  4. MCECollections - Provides support for MCECollections Beta 1 - Play Next add-in for Vista Media Center.

Version 3.4.4 Posted February 10, 2008

  1. Version 3.4.3 Release Notes apply.
  2. Version 3.4.3 does not have to be uninstalled, this build will install directly over it.
  3. The only change in this build of the software is that during startup the program will make a backup copy of the SeriesInfo database, Series.xml.  The backup copy will be made in the parent folder "Recorded TV Manager" in the Software share on the WHS.  If the WHS Data Corruption Bug trashes the Series.xml file in the "Data" directory, you can use this backup copy to restore the previous known state of the file.

Version 3.4.3 Posted January 29, 2008

  1. Uninstall beta version - If you previously installed the Beta version of this application, use the Control Panel to uninstall the Beta version before installing this version.
  2. Use the Refresh button often - Sometimes when the program is running during an AutoCopy operation which was initiated by the Home Server, the display will not update properly and the program will get out of synch with reality.  Click the Refresh button on the toolbar to rectify that.
  3. Program runs very slowly at times - If the Home Server is busy (such as Load Balancing or some other task), or the network is very busy, the program will be very slow to start and/or will appear to be not responding.  When that happens, it is best to just leave it alone until is straightens out, and then click the Refresh button.
