Language LocalizeGerman Start Menu

 The Media Center Add-in user interface can be fully language localized using the following procedure:

  1. Install and verify the functionality of the Recorded TV Manager Media Center Add-in.  Close Media Center.
  2. On the client computer where the add-in is installed, navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Drasch Computer Software\Recorded TV Manager Media Center Add-in.
  3. Right-click the program RTVLocalize.exe and select Run as Administrator to start the language localizer utility. In User Account Control, click Allow.

  1. Select each localizable string in the list box and type the New Value in the edit field and then click Apply.
  2. After all the strings have been updated, click Update VMC Start Menu to apply the changes to the Start menu in the Vista Media Center interface.
  3. Click Done.

Language.xml

The language strings are stored in the file Language.xml in the installation folder (see 2 above).  The language localizer utility makes changes to that file and when the Vista add-in software runs it uses the latest values from that file.  Apply an existing Language.xml file by following the below procedure:

Developer's Note: It is my intention to post language translations here.  If you localize your add-in for a language which is not listed here, and would like to share it with others, please send it to me via email at support@fjdrasch.com and I will add it to this page with attribution.

Available Translations

German - I did this myself as a sample using Microsoft glossaries.  Please notify me of any incorrect usages.

Apply an existing language translation file:

  1. Download the translation file from the Available Translations list above.  Right-click on the link and select Save Target As...
  2. Save the file to the installation folder and replace the existing Language.xml file.  In User Account Control, permit the file replace.
  3. Follow the above procedure to run the language localizer utility and verify the localized strings.
  4. Click Update VMC Start Menu to apply the changes to the Vista Media Center Start menu.  Note that this step is required to make necessary changes in the registry.
  5. Click Done.
  6. Restart Media Center.
